“Twilight” sequel “New Moon” grossed almost $73 million during its opening-day at the box office on Friday, easily beating “The Dark Knight,” which was the previous record holder with a bit over $67 million. This news comes after “New Moon” set a record for midnight performances.
Initial forecasts put the likely first-weekend total for “New Moon” at around $85 million, but now it is expected for the film to soar way past that with ease. “Dark Knight” currently holds the record for biggest opening ever with $158.4 million. Come back tomorrow to see if “New Moon” beat those numbers.
The original “Twilight” – released a year ago this weekend – collected $36 million in its first day of release and $69.6 million in its first weekend.
