Moviehole got the chance to speak to Seth Rogen, who revealed that a sequel to the yet-to-be-released “Pineapple Express” is already being considered, but the sequel to “Superbad” will never happen.
“They’ve been wanting us to do a sequel to ‘Superbad‘ for so long – but we’ve held off,” said Rogen. “We eventually said No. But this one, it’s not a precious coming-of-age story like ‘Superbad,’ it’s a weed action-movie and if it did well, and they gave us like $50 million dollars (as opposed to the $26M we got for this one) we could benefit from that.”
Right before “Superbad” was released, talks of a sequel were a daily occurrence. Everyone was waiting to see what the box office results would be. In the end, the film earned $170 million in worldwide ticket sales, even though it was made for only $20 million. Then talks of a spin-off, which would revolve around the two officers (Bill Hader, Rogen), became the big thing on the net. Apparently, those talks are no more.
Almost every anticipated movie goes through sequel talks around its release, but most of the time nothing happens. Just look at “Cloverfield,” “The Departed,” “Inside Man,” “Sin City,” “Old School,” “Ghost Rider,” “Mr. Brooks,” “TMNT” and many, many others.
