Rumors begin about next “Batman” villian

August 6th, 2008 · No Comments · Movies

Internet rumors about who will be the villain in “The Dark Knight” sequel have been popping up everywhere. Angelina Jolie has been rumored to play Catwoman, Johnny Depp to play The Riddler and Philip Seymour Hoffman to play The Penguin. Great choices, but would director Christopher Nolan use these famous characters or would he rather use a villain that nobody has ever heard of?

There’s no reason why we necessarily have to use the same three or four that are still around,” said David Goyer, who was given a story credit for “The Dark Knight.” “I mean, Batman’s got a wide variety, [a] rogue’s gallery. Certainly we used two in the first movie that hadn’t been in the films before.

Goyer, who wrote the script for “Batman Begins” with Nolan, was referring to Ra’s Al Ghul (Ken Watanabe) and Scarecrow (Cillian Murphy).

No decision has been made yet on whether to move forward with a third Batman movie, though it’s likely one will come together eventually. “It’s really up to Chris to decide, and he has not decided whether or not he wants to go back to the well again,” Goyer said. “And if he does, I, you know, would be honored to work with him.
